Necon 2025

Just got back from my annual trip to New England for Necon, which was, as ever, a delight. This year I had the privilege of serving as Toastmaster, and was thus tasked with delivering the opening toast to the convention, as well as hosting the welcoming dinner for the Guests of Honor and interviewing the Writer Guests of Honor (Cynthia Pelayo, Errick Nunnally, and Eric LaRocca) onstage. I also moderated a panel on writing local horror, MCed the improvisational humorous writing competition Write Club (where I was gloriously sandbagged onstage by my girlfriend), co-hosted Necon Update (a humorous look at the con and various campers), and hosted a new event where first-time Necon attendees got to give a reading. Oh, and Ellen and I also hosted a late night unofficial Scotch and Cheese party, which was by all accounts a smashing success.

And there was some other stuff that went on that I will talk about later.

But it was great, I promise. Already planning for next year!

Going To The Mountains to Read

Saturday, May 31, I’ll be part of a group reading at the Story Parlor in Asheville, NC to support Brother Wolf Animal Rescue. It goes without saying that western North Carolina got absolutely hammered by a hurricane last year, and while the folks out there have done a great job of rebuilding, they’re not getting a hell of a lot of help from Washington right now. So if you’re in the area, swing by and help out a little, because the lineup is great and so is the cause. And if you can’t make it, maybe check out Brother Wolf and see if you can help them a bit anyway.

Hope to see you there!

Mo*Con News

I am thrilled to announce that I will be a Special Guest at this year’s Mo*Con, the annual gathering of talented and mighty folks hosted by writer, Afrofuturist, and general man about town Maurice Broaddus. Details of the show can be found here, if you’re interested in attending!

Nightmare Logic 2025!

I am happy bey0nd words to announce that Falstaff Dread has picked up my new novel NIGHTMARE LOGIC for publication next year! This is the scariest, most horrific novel I have written, and I am thrilled that the fine folks at Falstaff believe in it and want to bring it to you. Keep watching this space for updates!

Some Love From A Goat

Kayleigh Dobbs of Happy Goat Horror was kind enough to turn her eye to me and A MEETING IN THE DEVIL’S HOUSE.  She reviewed it, and you have to love any review that includes a break in the action to question whether the author is all right – which you can find right here.

She also sat down for a pleasant hour’s conversation which covered everything from writing for games to the true story behind the zombie frog tale “Meemaw’s Frogs”.  If you have the time, check it out – the conversation was a lot of fun. You can find it here.

Meanwhile the reviews keep rolling in on Amazon – two new ones say nice things like “MEETING IN THE DEVIL’S HOUSE is a meeting you don’t want to miss” and “The amazing thing is that each story is a master class in short fiction. Dansky’s writing in this collection reminds me of the first time I read Bradbury’s October Country. That’s the highest praise I can bestow!”

Noir At The (Coffee) Bar

As the year winds down, things get darker. So dark, in fact, that I will be reading at the upcoming Noir at the (Coffee) Bar in Rocky Mount, NC on Friday. December 8 at 7 PM.  Come join me and a host of other talented authors as we get grim and gritty in the lovely Larema Coffee House!

Morbid Tales

Horror.

Death Metal.

Mead.

All in one place, October 18th, 7 PM. Be there as I share the stage with local death metal act Eldritch Horror for the Durham Public Library’s MORBID TALES event at Moon Dog Meadery in downtown Durham.

Don’t be afraid. Well, maybe a little…

A Meeting In The Devil’s House and Other Stories

Big news! Coming in July from Twisted Publishing is my second short fiction collection, the diabolically titled A MEETING IN THE DEVIL’S HOUSE AND OTHER STORIES. The cover is by the vastly talented Errick Nunnally, and the foreword by the legendary James A. Moore. It’s a dozen and a half stories about magical pirate rabbis, cosmic vending machines, zombie frogs and more, and it will be available soon!

Speaking of that cover…

ECGC Talk Video Goes Live on YouTube

Earlier this year I was cajoled into giving a talk at East Coast Game Conference. I hadn’t given a talk at a game conference with a powerpoint in years – mostly I’ve been concentrating on narrative roundtables at GDC, as well as helping put together the content for the Game Narrative Summit and ECGC. But this time I went ahead and did it, talking about the differences between writing fiction and writing video games. Enjoy!
